New York’s got nothing to prove

Starbucks RESERVE ROASTERY NYC

Illustration + Art Direction

Starbucks Reserve, the core brand’s premium sister, has five grand Roasteries around the world. New York’s one of them. I was tasked to develop key art for this location’s flagship merchandise collection, as well as its companion Reserve card for an exclusive coffee blend only available at this location.

While New York is full of glitz and glam, my personal ethos as an artist is to highlight the more down-to-earth parts of our visual world, bringing a little polish to the unpolished.

This work was heavily inspired by the street art and flyposting I see everyday living in NYC. Bright primaries are paired with calmer moments of blue and green to celebrate the city’s energy and vigor.

The artwork had to bring Starbucks and New York together – I pulled in coffee beans, botanicals, and architectural elements of the Roastery with some touches of pigeons, bricks, and the Hudson River.
